This is the radiation machine. It rotates to the positions it needs-see below.
He has this mask to help the machine pinpoint where to do the radiation and to protect the rest of his face. He'll get to keep the mask!!
The table raises up to the height needed. The whole treatment lasts about 5 minutes or less. He gets 20-30 seconds on each side of the face and then he is done. Only 3 more treatments to go and we are on to recovery!!
We've had a few small miracles during all this. Mark had some sore on his tongue after the first week making it very difficult to talk. It was a real low point in all of this. He had his brother and nephew come over and give him a blessing and within a few days the sores started to heal. Mark met with the doctor this past week and the doctor said it's really rare for someone to heal in the middle of treatment. Mark has been doing well. He is tired a lot. He takes several naps throughout the day. In addition to being tired he has a constant sore throat and dry mouth. He is enduring it well and with minimal complaining. He has lost about 10 pounds. The doctor said he should start feeling better in about 2 weeks but it could take up to 6 months before he really feels back to "normal". Thanks for all your prayers and love.

Isn't it amazing what they can do these days? Really! That is some serious equipment!
Tell Mark that he is awesome...and you are even more awesome for not throwing a pity party for yourself over all of this. At the end you guys should reward yourselveds with a weekend away or something like that!!
